Today's product development methodologies in the automotive industry leads to very inefficient and unstructured reuse of artefacts in the long run, not utilizing potential synergies. Product line approach that explicitly models common & variable parameters help create a common base to derive products, poses as a solution to this problem. However, for these systems functional safety is a major concern.
